Q: How long will auditions take?

Plan for up to 3 hours.

What to expect:

• Group Audition: 1-2 hours

• Parent Meeting: Approximately 40 minutes (required)

• Named Role Auditions: Additional small-group auditions for students interested in principal roles

Good to know:

• Students auditioning for ensemble only may finish earlier.

• Once your student has completed their audition and the parent meeting is finished, you are free to leave.

• Families with students in multiple age groups should plan for a longer day.

Why so long?

We want every student to have a positive experience and a fair opportunity to be seen. As this program continues to grow, we hope to make the process even more efficient in future years.

Q: What does my student need to prepare?

If your student wants to be in the show:

• No preparation required

• If your student wants a named role:

  • Review the Audition Packet (available October 14)

  • Prepare the required audition materials listed in the packet

Q: What happens during auditions?

Group Auditions

Students will participate in fun, age-appropriate theater activities designed to help us get to know them.

Activities may include:

• Creative theater games

• Simple acting exercises

• Movement activities

• Speaking a short line with a group

Named Role Auditions

Students interested in a named role will participate in a small-group audition and present prepared material from the audition packet.

This may include:

• Memorized dialogue or a monologue

• A short song selection (for younger students)

We know audition day requires a significant investment of time, and we're grateful for your family's commitment to the program. Our goal is to give every student the best possible opportunity to shine, and that takes a little extra time. Thank you for your patience as we launch this exciting first year. We're looking forward to a wonderful season together and hope to continue streamlining the process in the years ahead!

Q1: How long will auditions take? 

A: Approximately 3 hours. Auditions will start with a group audition that will last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the number of students present. Following the group audition, any individuals interested in a named role will stay for small group auditions using prepared material in the audition packet. During this time, we will also have a mandatory parent meeting that will last approximately 40 minutes. If your student is finished with their audition, you will be free to leave after this meeting. 

We understand this is a large time commitment, especially if you have students in both morning and afternoon groups. Please understand it is not our goal to inconvenience you, but rather we hope to give every student the best possible experience and opportunity. It takes time to make that happen, especially since we are all new to this program this year. Hopefully, in subsequent years, we will be able to learn, grow, and streamline the process.

Q2: What will my student need to prepare?

A: That depends on what they hope to be cast as. If they simply wish to be a part of the program, they do not need to prepare anything. If they wish to be considered for a named role, they will need to consult the audition packet available Oct. 14 for the material they will need to be prepared to perform. 

Q3: What will happen during auditions? 

A: During the group auditions, students will be asked to play various age-appropriate theater games to gauge their creativity, boldness, and performance abilities. This may include activities like moving as a specific animal or acting like they are lifting a heavy box. They may also be asked to repeat a short single line of dialogue with a group. 

During the small group auditions, students will enter a side room with a small group to present any prepared material. This material will likely consist of memorized dialogue or monologue, as well as a song excerpt for the younger students.
